Grigor Dimitrov vs. Alexander Zverev prediction: French Open odds, picks

The story of the 2023 men’s French Open is the wide-open bottom half of the bracket.

That’s what makes Monday’s contest between Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov so intriguing.

Both players were considered relative long shots at the start of the tournament — Dimitrov was in the triple-digits, while Zverev was around 30/1 — but there is now a viable path to the final for whoever comes out on top on Monday.

The winner would be a favorite over whoever wins the match between Tomas Martin Etcheverry or Yoshihito Nishioka in the quarterfinals.

Zverev is the better player overall in this matchup and it’s not surprising to see him sit as a -175 favorite, but there are still plenty of questions for the 26-year-old German to answer.

He has not had an overly impressive European clay season until this point and he’s struggled when he’s had to step up in weight-class.

Dimitrov is not one of the truly elite players at this stage of his career, but he’s yet to drop a set in this tournament and is ranked as the No. 29 player in the world.

Neither player has really been under too much pressure yet in this tournament, but Zverev has had the rub of the luck by going 4-0 in tiebreaks.

Dimitrov, meanwhile, has only needed one tiebreaker en route to his 9-0 set record at Roland Garros.

Dimitrov’s form makes this match much closer to a coin flip than the odds imply.
