Katy Perry thrown ‘under the bus’ by ‘American Idol,’ wants to quit: report

“American Idol” producers apparently aren’t supporting her “Unconditionally.”

A source allegedly close to Katy Perry claimed Tuesday that the controversial singer has expressed a desire to quit “Idol” after judging the show for six years.

Perry, 38, has been the subject of several online rants by die-hard “Idol” fans complaining about the “California Gurls” singer’s provocative — and sometimes “rude” — coaching methods.

Perry also reportedly claimed the producers of “Idol” intentionally edited footage to make her look like the “nasty” judge.

“Katy feels like [the producers] threw her under the bus,” a supposed insider told the Daily Mail. “She feels like her comments could have been removed.”

The Post reached out to Perry and “American Idol” for comment.

According to the source, the “Firework” singer has only recently become aware of the animosity toward her and that from the beginning of the season she “was trying to stay in her lane, do her job and go home.”

The insider also claimed that Perry has wanted out of the reality show “for some time now.”

“She went into it thinking she was going to foster young talent,” the source said. “For her good intentions to be misinterpreted it was not what she wanted.

“She has accomplished so much in her career and is now being looked at as a nasty reality show judge.”

The straw that apparently broke Perry’s back was when she was booed for slamming the glittery outfit worn by one contestant.

“Getting booed really upset her,” said the source.

“[Katy’s decision to quit] is not a money thing,” claimed the publication’s insider. “For her, it is starting to be more of a legacy issue. She does not want her career defined by a talent competition show where she isn’t even performing.”

In a telling move during the show’s Sunday night season finale, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer — who was viciously trolled online for her “swimsuit” attire — dodged questions about her future on the show.

“Oh, I’m just so grateful,” said Perry regarding her time on the series before joking, “Other than me [getting] fired.”

The singer was later scolded by her co-judge Lionel Richie, 73, who told her, “Don’t put that out there, OK?”

The “Dark Horse” singer also faced blowback when fans said she was waging “psychological warfare” on two contestants.

Since early this month, several fans have petitioned the show to remove the pop diva and replace her full-time with Alanis Morrissette, who subbed in for Perry when she and Richie performed at the coronation concert for King Charles in early May.
