2 NYU business school students fatally shot outside club in Puerto Rico

Two NYU graduate students were shot and killed when they were caught in the middle of gunfire early Saturday morning during a trip with classmates to Puerto Rico, according to authorities.

Innocent bystanders Franco Medina, 29, and Sergio Palomino Ruiz, 28, were fatally shot by a woman in front of a club they were attending with pals from NYU’s Stern School of Business, ABC 7 reported, citing Puerto Rican police and the university.

The gunfire erupted during a dispute between the suspect and others at the nightclub.

Both victims were pursuing their MBAs at NYU’s elite business school and were with other students on the trip, the school said, according to the television station.

No one else was injured during the shooting.

In a statement, an NYU spokesperson said the school was “brokenhearted and shocked” by the violent deaths.

“NYU grieves today with the family, loved ones, and friends of these students, whose lives ended tragically, suddenly, and far too early,” the university said.

Business school classmates set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the two families now grieving the loss of their loved ones.

“The Stern community is devastated by the loss [of] our dear classmates, Franco and Sergio. They were such rays of light in our community, constantly bringing laughter, smiles and joy to all of us,” the fundraiser page stated. “We express our profound sympathies for their families and want to offer assistance how we can.”

The suspect was reportedly still on the loose with authorities requesting the public’s help in identifying her.
