Former Knick Alexey Shved hospitalized in Russian ‘hooligan attack’

Alexey Shved, a former guard on the Knicks, was hospitalized after he was allegedly victimized by a “hooligan attack” in his native Russia.

His Russian team, CKSA Moscow, announced the news in a statement on Tuesday.

“Our team’s guard Alexey Shved suffered from a hooligan attack committed on him last night at the exit of one of the Moscow restaurants,” the statement said.

“Alexey suffered a serious head injury as a result of a fall and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. The player contacted the police to investigate the incident.

“Due to the injury, Shved will not be able to take part in the next games of the team. We wish Alexei a speedy recovery!”

Shved, 34, played for the Timberwolves, Sixers, Rockets and Knicks in an NBA career that began in 2012 and concluded in 2015.

He was traded to the Knicks from Houston with a pair of second-round picks (2017 and 2019) for Pablio Prigioni on Feb. 19, 2015.

In 16 games for the Knicks during the 2014-15 season, Shved averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game before a rib injury ending his campaign.

He returned to Europe after a contract impasse with the Knicks, whose three offers were in the ballpark of the $2.8 million room exception he was seeking.

He played for Khimki Moscow from 2015-21, then rejoined CKSA Moscow, who he had also played for from 2006-12 before his NBA career began.

According to Eurohoops.net, CKSA Moscow lost in seven games to PBC Lokomotiv Kuban in Russia’s VTB United League semifinals.
