Joe Douglas compliments Jets’ draft pick Joe Tippmann’s glorious mullet

The Jets are excited about center Joe Tippmann’s football acumen, but they would be remiss not to mention his luscious head of hair.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh spoke to reporters Friday night after selecting the Wisconsin center with the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Friday night and the first thing Douglas mentioned was Tippmann’s trademark mullet.

“[We’re] fired up to add Big Joe to the team and his Wisconsin waterfall,” Douglas said. “Probably the best mullet in the Draft right now.”

Tippmann is strong as an ox, benching 455 pounds and squatting 635 pounds, and he will be tasked with using that strength to help protect the Jets’ new superstar quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

“Excellent size, excellent feet, great on the move, he’s a natural fit for our offensive style,” Douglas said. “Though he’s only played center, with his size, (6-foot-6, 300 pounds), his athleticism, he could provide a lot of versatility to our interior, which has been a hallmark of our interior, so just fired up to have him.”

Douglas continued to gush about the new draftee at the press conference.

“He brings athleticism, intelligence, and toughness,” Douglas said. “He’s gonna be a good fit with our guys.”

Douglas also called Tippmann an “unbelievable communicator” and said the offensive lineman quickly grasped Wisconsin’s offense and had command in the huddle.

Tippmann is expected to compete with Connor McGovern, who the Jets re-signed last week on a $1.9 million deal, in training camp for a starting job.
