John Stamos tried to get Olsen twins fired from ‘Full House’: I ‘couldn’t deal’
The “Full House” almost had some free space.
John Stamos revealed Monday that he got 11-month-old Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired from the iconic sitcom “Full House” after he “couldn’t deal” with the twins’ constant crying.
Appearing on Josh Peck and Ben Soffer’s “Good Guys” podcast, Stamos explained that the incident took place during the first episode of the hit show while filming a scene with Dave Coulier.
In the now-iconic scene, Stamos’ character, Uncle Jesse, and Joey (Coulier) attempt to take care of Michelle Tanner — a role shared by the twins — while their father, Danny Tanner, played by the late Bob Saget, is away.
“We’re doing the scene. Joey and I were changing the baby, right? And Danny’s gone and said, ‘Take care of the kids.’ ‘Yeah, we got it. We got it,'” said Stamos, 59. “So, we’re carrying the baby downstairs and we take her in the kitchen and we hose her down. And she was screaming. Both of them. They wanted to be anywhere else but there — and so did I.”
According to Stamos, the producer of the show kept switching out the twins, promising Stamos that they wouldn’t cry, which infuriated the “You Again” star.
“They were 11 months old, and God bless them. They kept switching: ‘This one’s not gonna cry.’ I couldn’t deal with it,” recalled Stamos. “And I said, ‘This is not gonna work.’ So they got rid of them.”
“And so they got rid of them. They bring on these two redheaded kids … I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive,” continued the actor.
“Redheads are really hit or miss,” chimed in Soffer. “Either they’re so stunning or you keep them in your closet.”
Peck then asked the seasoned actor if the Olsen twins ever found out they were fired.
“They do now,” replied Stamos. “It was only a few days, and I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back! These kids are terrible.'”
The Post reached out to Stamos and the Olsen twins for comment.
Mary-Kate and Ashley continued to star as Michelle Tanner in the ABC show for the rest of its eight-season run and managed to become one of the most famous duos in Hollywood history.
The “Full House” set saw a lot of division: It was revealed in 2022 that Stamos and Saget — who died in January of that year at the age of 65 — often clashed on set.
According to the “Grandfathered” actor, the pair were often at odds due to their “styles.”
“He was a comic. If there was even one person on the set, he had to make them laugh,” recalled Stamos, adding that the late comic “could be painfully distracting — disruptive — because you’re here, let’s get this scene, let’s find out what works, what doesn’t.”
The men eventually found common ground, and Stamos even delivered the eulogy at Saget’s funeral.
