California police officer killed in accidental shooting

A California police officer and father is dead after he was involved in an accidental shooting Thursday.

Officer Lorenzo Morgan died while off-duty in a residential neighborhood of Oro Grande, which is located roughly 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles, according to The Sun.

“Officer L. Morgan was a beloved father, friend, colleague, and a caring officer who loved working for the Colton Community,” the Colton Police Department wrote in a heartfelt post.

The incident was reported at 2:46 p.m when a motorist called police about an accidental shooting — though other details surrounding Morgan’s death are unknown at this time, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Gloria Huerta told the outlet.

Morgan started his career in law enforcement in 2019 and had recently joined the Colten Police Department in May.

“The Colton Police Department suffered a tragic loss,” the department said.

Morgan is survived by his parents, fiancé, son and soon-to-be-born son, according to Colton Police.
