Baker Mayfield’s wife Emily has ‘no ill will’ towards Browns after messy end

Baker Mayfield’s wife Emily discussed the quarterback’s contentious exit from the Browns on Wednesday in an Instagram “ask me anything,” even revealing how they feel about Cleveland now since arriving in Charlotte.

In response to a fan who said they “hated” how Mayfield’s situation played out in Cleveland — before the Browns traded the former first-overall pick to Carolina last month —Emily said there’s “no ill will” on their end.

“End of the day, it’s a business! Baker and I are so thankful for our 4 years there!” she wrote.

Elsewhere in the AMA, Emily gave insight into what it’s like being a Panthers WAG while the team is at training camp.

“Every team is different! But… they stay a little over an hour away, but I can go visit him at night if I want,” Emily replied when asked if she’s able to “see Baker at all” during training camp.

“Truthfully through, with him studying the new playbook & being in a new system, I let him focus and do his thing during the week. He also gets to come home one day/night per week so we make up for the week.”

Although Emily “absolutely loved” living in Cleveland, she shared that she is excited for “a fresh start, a new adventure and warmer weather” living in Charlotte.

Mayfield, 27, landed in Carolina four months after he initially requested a trade out of Cleveland. At the time, the Browns made a surprise play for his replacement in then-Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson, who signed a five-year, $230 million contract with the Browns, fully guaranteed, was handed a six-game suspension on Monday after the quarterback faced a litany of sexual misconduct accusations. Retired federal Judge Sue L. Robinson ruled that Watson violated the league’s personal conduct policy.

Mayfield will face his former team Week 1 when the Panthers host the Browns. He’s currently battling former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold for the starting job in Carolina.
