Meghan Markle’s half-sister accuses duchess of ‘elder abuse’ for not visiting ailing dad
Meghan Markle’s half-sister has accused the duchess of “elder abuse” and “negligence” for not visiting their father Thomas in the hospital after he reportedly suffered a stroke.
“He’s been through so much — two heart attacks, a pandemic and now a stroke. None of us have heard from Meghan. That’s negligence,” Samantha Markle, 57, told GB News on Wednesday night, the UK’s Standard reported.
“If she can’t find it in her heart or have the moral conscience to step forward then shame on her,” the estranged sister said. “He doesn’t have a lot of time. She’s going to have to live with that for the rest of her life.”
Samantha also likened Meghan’s behavior to “elder abuse.”
When asked if she thought Meghan should help cover her dad’s medical expenses, Samantha said, “She sees all of this. I’m getting the feeling that I would be spinning my wheels to try and appeal to her heart now.
“She could have contacted him to work things out at any time and she hasn’t. How can she watch him suffer like this? Who does that?” she added.
The retired TV lighting director, 77, was photographed being loaded into an ambulance in Tijuana, Mexico, with an oxygen mask strapped across his face, TMZ reported.
Thomas was rushed across the border to a hospital in Chula Vista, Calif., late Monday. He reportedly could not speak to paramedics and had to write down his symptoms on a piece of paper.
Samantha flew from her home in Florida to the hospital to see her father, the Mirror reported.
“My father is recovering in [the] hospital,” Samantha told the Daily Mail in a statement.
“We ask for privacy for the family, for his health and wellbeing. He just needs peace and rest,” she said. “It’s a travesty how much he’s been tortured and how much he’s had to go through thanks to my sister’s disregard the past few years. That is unforgivable.”
Thomas previously made headlines for not attending Meghan’s royal wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 due to cardiac problems.
Samantha has long blamed the Duchess of Sussex for their father’s mounting health woes, once taking issue with Meghan honoring Nelson Mandela while at odds with their dad.
According to multiple outlets, Thomas’ latest health scare means he will not be attending Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee in London next week, as he had reportedly planned.
