FDNY says anti-abortion activist in viral video is not a firefighter

A viral video of an anti-abortion activist in FDNY garb shouting outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral over the weekend is not a member of the city’s ranks of firefighters, a department spokesman said Monday.

“A video circulating from a protest in Manhattan over the weekend shows an individual wearing a FDNY sweatshirt. The individual in the video is not a member of the FDNY,” said Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Frank Dwyer.

The video emerged Sunday showing the man screaming at pro-choice demonstrators from the steps of the church, “I am the people!

“I am the people! I am the people! The people have decided! The court has decided! You lose!” the man shouts.

As the clip circulated, social-media sleuths mistook the man for a veteran member of the department, a goof that sparked the official rebuttable from the agency Monday morning.

“The comments made do not represent the views of the FDNY. The matter is under investigation,” Dwyer added.
