Why I’m still making up my mind about Igor Shesterkin’s place in this MVP race

I’ve been asked recently about the Hart Trophy, both whether I think Igor Shesterkin has a shot at being the first goaltender to be named NHL MVP since Carey Price in 2015 and whether I will vote for him.

I can tell you that I doubt Shesterkin will win it. I can also say that I have not yet made up my mind for whom I will cast my ballot.

Given history, a goaltender pretty much needs to put up historic numbers to merit consideration. And when Shesterkin was doing that through the season’s first five months while carrying the Rangers to unexpected success, he propelled himself into the conversation.
