Woman caught in crossfire between two groups in Manhattan

An innocent bystander was struck by a stray bullet when she was caught in the crossfire of a shootout erupted in East Harlem Sunday night, cops said.

A 43-year-old woman was shot in the leg near E. 132 Street and Madison Ave just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday night when two gangs exchanged gunfire, according to law enforcement sources.

The woman was not believed to have been an intended target.

She was transported to Harlem hospital where she was recovering on Sunday night.

Police recovered 17 shell casings at the scene, according to sources.

No arrests were immediately made on Sunday night and the investigation is ongoing.
