Photos of Johnny Depp ‘passed out,’ cocaine shown in Amber Heard trial
Johnny Depp is now starring in some of the lousiest pictures of his career.
The Virginia jury hearing the actor’s defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard was shown a series of embarrassing images displayed Thursday, including a photo of him with ice cream spilled in his lap and video of him going wild in a kitchen.
The most provocative photo, from 2013, could have been a scene out of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” — appearing to show a glass of whiskey, lines of cocaine, other drug paraphernalia and a Keith Richards CD arrayed on a glass-top table.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star acknowledged under cross examination in the Fairfax courtroom that the photo was snapped at a time when he had “fallen off the wagon.”
Asked if he would often drink whiskey in the morning, Depp replied, “Isn’t happy hour anytime?” eliciting laughter from the gallery.
Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 35, for $50 million, claiming she defamed him in a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece in which she did not name him but described herself as a victim of domestic abuse.
Heard’s attorneys argue that Depp did abuse the “Aquaman” actress, physically and sexually, and claim that his denials are not credible because he was often too drunk or high to recall what happened.
Her attorney showed jurors a string of text messages Depp had sent to friends over the years, including a June 2013 exchange with his actor friend Paul Bettany in which Depp wrote, “Let’s burn Amber!!!”

“Let’s drown her before we burn her!!!” Depp said in a follow-up text. “I will f- -k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”
Under cross-examination, Depp repeatedly denied physically abusing Heard.
After undated footage of a fight the couple had in the kitchen of their West Hollywood home was shown to jurors, Depp said, “I did assault a couple of cabinets, but I did not touch Miss Heard.”
In the video, Depp is seen slamming cupboards, throwing items around and pouring himself a glass of wine.
“I did not try to intimidate Miss Heard . . . If she was scared to death, why didn’t she leave?” Depp said on the stand.
After getting into a fight with Heard on a Boston-to-Los Angeles flight, Depp exchanged texts with Bettany again, saying he was going to “properly stop the booz [sic] thing.”
“Drank all night before I picked Amber up to fly to LA this past Sunday … Ugly, mate … No food for days … Powders … Half a bottle of Whiskey, a thousand red bull and vodkas, pills, 2 bottles of Champers on plane,” Depp wrote in the text.
Jurors heard that Depp sent Heard an apologetic text after the flight.
“Once again, I find myself in a place of shame and regret. Of course, I am sorry . . . But I will never do it again. I want to get better for you. And for me. I must. My illness somehow crept up and grabbed me,” the message read.
Depp had earlier testified that he’d done recreational drugs with famous friends in the past, including Marilyn Manson – and he even allegedly tried to get pills off Manson’s assistant during a trip to Australia in 2015.
Asked if he’d done cocaine with Manson, Depp testified: “We’ve had cocaine together maybe a couple of times.” He then joked, “I once gave Marilyn Manson a pill so that he would stop talking so much.”
Jurors were also shown a 2014 image that Heard took of Depp “passed out” on a couch in Boston with his lap covered in ice cream.
Depp testified that the photo was snapped after he had finished working a 17-hour day and took opioids. He claimed Heard gave him the pint of ice cream because she “knew”he would fall asleep with it.
“If you’ll notice, my right hand is in my pocket, so I wasn’t participating in the festival of ice cream,” he added.
“That was a wonderful picture for her to take,” Depp added. When Heard’s attorney asked if it was Heard’s fault the photo was taken, Depp shot back, “Well, she snapped it.”
Depp objected to the attorney describing him as “passed out.”
“ ‘Passed out’ is an interesting way of putting it,” he said. “Asleep?”
Heard’s attorneys are trying to derail Depp’s defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife after she wrote a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece that Depp says defamed him and ruined his lucrative acting career.
Heard indirectly accused Depp of domestic abuse in the article. But Depp has testified that Heard was actually the aggressor in their relationship.
Her attorneys have argued that he can’t deny what happened because he was often drunk and high on drugs to the point of blacking out.
