Bullets fly inside Bronx subway less than week after Brooklyn train shooting

Shots were fired on a Bronx subway train early Saturday — less than a week after a deranged man opened fire on a rush hour Brooklyn train and left dozens of people hurt.

No one was injured when bullets flew inside the northbound 4 train near the Burnside Avenue stop just before 2 a.m., police said. Cops are also investigating whether shots were fired inside the station as well.

Three shell casings were found on the Burnside stop platform, the NYPD said. The train was briefly held at the Fordham station stop after the incident.

A man in his 20s with a black backpack and a female with a green jacket are being sought in connection with the incident, cops added. No arrests had been made.

“This is insane. You can’t go anywhere. Just leaving your house is like a struggle,” a 22-year-old man who runs a family store nearby told The Post.

“Coming here this morning and hearing what happened and with the business so close, it’s not safe for people on the train, on the platform, in the streets, in the stores … bullets can fly anywhere. I came here from Yemen for a better life, not for the same thing to be happening here.”

It did not appear that anyone had been struck by the gunfire.

A 40-year-old man who takes the #4 regularly said he was angered by reports of the early morning shooting.

“What the hell is going on on mass transit? It’s not even a week later,” he said referring to the Brooklyn shooting. “You gotta be scared. Children are scared.  I tell my wife to be careful.  There is too much going on, take a can of mace or something to protect yourself.  This world ain’t the same anymore.”

On Tuesday morning, 10 people were shot and 19 others hurt when suspected gunman Frank James allegedly set off smoke bombs on the N train at the 36th Street stop in Sunset Park and began shooting, sending terrified straphangers fleeing.

James, 62, was captured after a citywide manhunt and is being held without bail on terrorism charges.
