Rams’ Sean McVay wants to ‘run it back’ with Aaron Donald

The idea that Sean McVay could retire and work in TV might have ended with three words.

“Run it back!”

That was what the 36-year-old head coach of the Rams chanted at his elite defensive lineman Aaron Donald at the team’s victory parade Wednesday celebrating the Super Bowl 2022 win over the Bengals.

Before the Super Bowl, both McVay and Donald were the subjects of retirement rumors.

The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that ESPN and McVay could have mutual interest if the coach were to walk away.

NBC’s Rodney Harrison said before the Super Bowl that Donald was considering retirement to spend more time with his family and recuperate. The eight-year veteran’s NFL résumé basically was completed with the championship, but it didn’t sound Wednesday as if he were contemplating retirement.

“We can bring the super team back, why not run it back?” a shirtless Donald asked, hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. “We can be world champions again!”

The title — which eluded McVay and Donald in a 2019 Super Bowl loss to the Patriots — seemed to reinvigorate the coach and defensive star, who can return to a roster stocked with big-name players. The Patriots were the last team to win consecutive Super Bowls, following the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
