Panthers willing to ‘listen to offers’ for Christian McCaffrey

Run CMC’s show could be going on the road.

Carolina is willing to “listen to offers” for star running back Christian McCaffrey during the offseason, according to The Athletic. The outlet noted it’s “hard to imagine” that many teams vying for the oft-injured 25-year-old would be willing to shell-out big, making it more likely that McCaffrey will suit up for the Panthers again in 2022.

McCaffrey has $44 million remaining on the record-breaking four-year contract that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. However, his promising career has been derailed by injuries since signing the deal.

The Stanford product, who has been linked to trade rumors before, has been limited to 10 games since 2020. Last season, McCaffrey played three games due to ankle and shoulder injuries. In 2021, he suffered a hamstring injury that caused him to sit out two games and experienced a season-ending ankle injury in his November return.

The running back was drafted by the Panther in 2017 as the No. 8 overall pick. Between 2017 and 2019, he scored 39 touchdowns and led the league in yards from scrimmage with 5,443.

When healthy this season, he was averaging 112.1 yards from scrimmage in his seven games this season.

The Panthers are entering their final game of their disappointing 2021 campaign at 5-11 and will face the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Next season, if they retain McCaffrey, keeping him healthy and finding a new franchise quarterback will be their top priorities.
