Dramatic body cam video captures shootout between gunman, cops in NYC

Dramatic new video shows the moment two NYPD officers are fired upon by a man in the Bronx in a wild shootout last month that left all three injured.

Police body-camera video, released by the NYPD Wednesday, captures the full encounter between the cops and 23-year-old Charlie Vasquez just after 8 p.m. on Nov. 24 after police were called for an armed man outside 2405 Beaumont Ave.

Eight-year veteran Officer Robert Holmes approached Vasquez as he sat on the front steps of the apartment building and asked him to pull his hands out of his pockets, the video shows.

Moments later, the two begin to struggle and two shots ring out — as the cop’s partner can be heard gasping.

Officer Alejandra Jacobs then pulls her service weapon and fires off five rounds as the two stumble onto the sidewalk and eventually fall to the ground, the video shows.

Vasquez squeezed off at least six shots during the struggle, cops said.

“Eighty-five! Eighty-five!” Jacobs, an Air Force reservist with one year on the job, can be heard yelling into her radio, requesting backup.

“Call a bus. Call a bus,” Holmes says to Jacobs, referring to an ambulance.

“I’ve been shot,” he adds, while standing up and breathing heavily.

“I’m shot, too,” Jacobs responds, panting — still with her gun pointed at Vasquez on the ground.

A responding cop then asks her, “Where are you shot?”

“My arm,” Jacobs says before yelling, “Show your hands!”

“Ah, my arm!” she screams out in pain as the two other officers handcuff Vasquez.

Holmes was shot in the right side of his chest, and Jacobs was hit in her right bicep, police said. Both were treated at St. Barnabus Hospital and released.

Vasquez, who allegedly had a Ruger EC9 9mm on him when he was arrested, was struck by gunfire in the abdomen, chest and armpit and treated at the hospital as well.

He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, attempted aggravated assault of a police officer, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
