Letters to the Editor — Dec. 6, 2021

The Issue: Alec Baldwin’s interview discussing the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Once again, Maureen Callahan knocks it out of the park (“Baldwin’s new low,” Dec. 3).

If Alec Baldwin and his obnoxious wife had any decency, they and the other “Baldwincitos” (pronounced with a fake Spanish accent) would get off the stage, engage in quiet acts of charity and reflection and basically keep their mouths shut. But Alec and Hilaria are so addicted to fame and the sound of their own voices that they cannot help themselves.

Obviously, Baldwin needs to do some very deep soul-searching — but he has such a high opinion of himself that he is incapable of such.

He wants us to believe that the gun somehow fired itself: Next he will be telling us that the guy who mowed down women and children in Waukesha was driving a car that drove itself.

In a softball interview by lapdog “journalist” George Stephanopolous, Baldwin claimed he never pulled the trigger on the gun that killed one person and wounded another on the set of “Rust.”

Apparently Baldwin’s lawyers are hoping the ABC viewing audience has the IQ of the OJ Simpson jury and have already resorted to the “throw it against the wall and see what sticks” defense.

I have no doubt they are looking for a used white Bronco for a slow-speed “chase” down the LA Freeway. What riveting television that will be. . . . and just in time for the next round of COVID shutdowns.

Baldwin claims that he did not pull the trigger of the gun which killed Halyna Hutchins.

But if Baldwin didn’t pull the trigger, then how did the gun fire? It just doesn’t add up.

While there is no doubt that Baldwin feels tremendous remorse for Hutchins’ tragic death, it’s pitiful that he has resorted to using his adroit acting skills in an extreme and unrealistic effort to exonerate himself.

And to Baldwin’s chagrin, such a ridiculous claim is enough to destroy his own credibility.

Baldwin’s statement that he did not pull the trigger is curious. Guns don’t simply fire and that particular type of pistol requires a separate hammer cocking before firing. It is possible that the weapon was worn and prone to a feather trigger, but without the hammer being cocked, nothing could happen in reality.

Callahan correctly calls out Baldwin, and kudos to her. In the interview about the shooting death at his hands of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, a lachrymose Baldwin may have been aiming for an Emmy-scoring performance. All he succeeded in doing was, yet again, portraying himself as narcissist.

In Baldwin’s Alec-centric universe, the woman died because of her own instructions, and the horrific incident — for which he said he feels no guilt — may have ruined his movie career. Most insulting to the our collective intelligence was his fantastical suggestion that the gun magically went off by itself.

The interview may have been technically unscripted,” but Baldwin’s planned purpose was clear: to lay out the groundwork for a legal defense.

Baldwin being a veteran actor couldn’t even pull off making us believe his tears were actually real and not for the phony staged interview that ABC presented.

Goodbye and see ya to this oaf who hasn’t got the cojones to admit what he did. Didn’t pull the trigger? Indeed.
