School custodian arrested in fatal hit-and-run after reporting vehicle stolen

A city Department of Education maintenance worker was nabbed in a hit-and-run crash that left a 44-year-old woman dead in The Bronx — months after reporting his vehicle stolen, police said.

Demoy Adams, 35, was arrested Saturday night after allegedly losing control of his gray 2018 BMWand barreling onto the sidewalk at East Fordham Road and Morris Avenue around 9 p.m. Aug. 28, where he struck and killed Murielle Gousse and injured a 53-year-old woman, before fleeing, cops said.

Adams was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, cops said. His bail was set at $25,000 cash or $150,000 bond. Adams was traveling at a high rate of speed when he “mounted the sidewalk” and struck Gousse, according to court documents. The car also struck metal items on the sidewalk that hit the older woman, who was left with minor injuries, police said.

Adams reported his vehicle stolen shortly after the crash, cops said. Police obtained video that led to his arrest, an NYPD spokesman said.

“After months of video canvassing, they were able to get the green light from the DA’s office to arrest him,” the spokesman said.
