Grading the Jets’ 21-14 win over the Texans in Houston on Sunday.
Offense
Overall, the offense struggled. The Jets managed just 266 yards in the game and only 109 passing yards. QB Zach Wilson (14 of 24, 145 yards, 1 INT, 1 rushing TD, 58.5 rating) did not show much improvement in his return from his knee injury. He only had one turnover and played better in the second half, but it was not an inspiring performance. The Jets ran the ball for a season-high 157 yards, something that helped them win the game. The offensive line did great run blocking.
Grade: C+
Defense
After allowing a few big plays in the first half, the defense settled down and did not allow a point on the Texans’ final seven drives. The Jets had five sacks. John Franklin-Myers had two sacks and an interception. Houston managed just 45 yards in the second half. QB Tyrod Taylor (17 of 26, 158 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 91.5 rating) made some big plays but could not move the ball in the second half.

Special Teams
Kicker Matt Ammendola may be looking for a job. He missed a 42-yard field goal and it was clear that Robert Saleh did not trust him enough to try a long field goal in the fourth quarter. Ammendola did make two field goals (31, 37), but he has missed enough lately that the Jets have to be considering making a change. Punter Braden Mann had a 29-yard punt that could have killed the Jets but the defense made a stand.
Grade: C-
Coaching
Saleh was able to halt a three-game losing skid by getting a solid team effort. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich had his unit playing at a high level after some early hiccups. Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur made some nice adjustments to get Wilson some easy completions late in the second quarter and then leaned on the run game in the second half to grind out the win.
