Blue Jays signing Kevin Gausman to $110 million deal as Mets miss out

One of the Mets’ top options to bolster their rotation is going elsewhere.

Former Giants starter Kevin Gausman is heading to the Blue Jays on a five-year, $110 million dollar contract, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.

The 30-year-old Gausman was the Mets’ strongest fallback option if their pursuit of former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer didn’t pan out. Scherzer, who pitched for the Nationals and Dodgers last season, is expected to make a decision on his future by Monday, Sherman reported. Gausman didn’t wait.

Gausman went 14-6 with a 2.81 ERA and 227 strikeouts over 192 innings last season for a Giants team that won the NL West. He compiled a 64-72 record and 4.02 ERA over his time with the Orioles, Braves and Giants.

The Blue Jays were interested in Gausman last offseason but he stayed with the Giants on a one year deal. Toronto also signed righty Jose Berrios to a seven-year, $131 million contract this offseason after bringing him over at the trade deadline.

The Mets also had interest in righty Jon Gray, who agreed to four years at $56 million with the Rangers.
