Doorbell camera captures California woman giving birth on her front lawn

This is no garden-variety baby.

A California mom gave birth in her front yard when her determined new son decided he couldn’t wait to enter the world — in a “surreal” delivery captured by the front door camera.

“We had been wanting to get pregnant for about six months before we ended up getting pregnant,” Emily Johnson told KCRA 3 about her hubby, Michael, adding that they had pictured a perfect birth aided by an epidural at a hospital five minutes away.

“I was really eager to be done. I was hoping he was going to come early, but we never really knew,” the Vacaville woman told the outlet.

Johnson’s contractions began Nov. 11 — a week early — and came about 10 minutes apart for some three hours, but she was sure they had more time.

When the time came, Emily could not make it to the hospital, and gave birth on the lawn. The ordeal was captured by their doorbell camera, seen above. KCRA

“Then the contractions went from three minutes to two minutes to one minute in a matter of 20 to 30 minutes, and we are like, ‘Oh, we got to get into the car we have to go,'” she told KCRA.

“We got to the car and I just said, ‘No, I can’t get into this car,'” said Emily, whose mom, Kristy Sparks, had just arrived. “I’m just like, ‘I’m going to get on the grass. I’m going to be here. This is my spot.'”

The new grandmother got on her hands and knees and saw baby Thomas’ head appear as the couple’s Ring camera caught all the action under the stars.

“By the time they walked up to me, I had a baby in my arms crying. It was unreal,” Sparks said, referring to medical workers who also arrived.

“I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be on the camera. I’m going to watch this and we share this,’” new dad Michael told KCRA.

Johnson said she “just laid back in the grass and took a nice deep breath,” adding that “I never want to do that again.”

The proud mom said she was thankful she was facing away from the camera “because otherwise, I don’t think we’d be able to share the video footage with anybody.”

She added: “I joke that I was like a cow giving birth in the field, because once I got to the hospital, I had grass clippings falling right off me and the nurses were wiping dirt off my knee and I’m like, ‘Oh, I did give birth in the lawn.’”
