Former Baltimore cop and two daughters found dead after manhunt
A former Baltimore cop, his two daughters and a female friend are dead after a massive manhunt sparked when the officer kidnapped the kids and assaulted their mom, reports said on Thursday.
Ex-officer Robert Vicosa, his children and Tia Bynum were found dead from gunshot wounds in a car in Smithsburg, Md., reports said.
Police had been pursuing the car from across the state line in Pennsylvania when it drifted off the road and came to a stop on the side of the road, WBAL-TV reported.
Vicosa kidnapped 6-year-old Aaminah and 7-year-old Giana, 7, in Windsor Township, Pa., before going on the lam.
The 42-year-old — who had been kicked out of the Baltimore County Police Department in August — was spotted in that area Tuesday when the ex-cop allegedly held up a woman and stole her car and phone with his daughters in tow, WGAL-TV reported.
The next day in Maryland, Vicosa and Bynum forced a man at gunpoint to drive them to several locations in the Baltimore area and then let him go unharmed, the station reported. The Baltimore County police chief pleaded for the girls to be released at that time.
“Please get these two innocent and precious children to a safe location,” Chief Melissa Hyatt said Thursday, according to the station.
“You can drop them off at a public safety facility or any other safe location with a responsible adult to care for them.”
Vicosa had been with the PD for 17 years and faced discipline and demotion from the rank of sergeant over issues like failing to show up to court and “improper conduct” with women subordinates, WGAL stated.
Bynum was also a Baltimore County cop, but had been suspended, reports said.
