Sam Beal says ‘feelings are mutual’ after Giants release

Cornerback Sam Beal is looking for a “fresh start” after being released by the Giants this week.

On Tuesday night, Beal took to Instagram, seemingly hinting at a rocky relationship with the team.

“Feelings are mutual New York,” the 25-year-old captioned a photo of himself in his Giants jersey. “Rocky start to my career but I’m glad I was able to grow my time being here. Fresh start and new opportunity.”

Beal, a third-round supplemental draft pick by the Giants in 2018, appeared in nine games with three starts. He recorded 27 tackles and one pass deflection.

Beal’s release came after he pleaded guilty to two gun charges in June, stemming from an arrest in Ohio in June 2020. He had entered into a pretrial diversion program and was placed on two years of probation.

On the field, Beal was limited due to injury. He missed all of his rookie season after suffering a shoulder injury at training camp in 2018. A year later, he ended up on the injured reserve list due to a hamstring injury. Beal also opted out of the 2020 season over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Giants currently have four spots open on their 53-man roster, with two reserved for left tackle Andrew Thomas (ankle) and rookie running back Gary Brightwell (Reserve/COVID-19).

The team is on a bye this week, so there’s time to fill the roster before visiting Tampa Bay in Week 11.
