Odell Beckham Jr. free agency watch could take awhile

It does not appear as though Odell Beckham Jr. will be making a swift decision as to where he plays next.

NFL Network’s Kim Jones said Tuesday that Beckham would be deciding his free agency destination quickly. A day later, she and cohort Ian Rapoport think it will take more time.

“Indications are that Odell Beckham Jr. is ‘going to take some time’ to decide on his next team and that decision is ‘a few days away,'” she tweeted. “So, stay tuned.”

ESPN reported Wednesday that Beckham was down to the Saints, Packers, and Chiefs for his next destination. ProFootballTalk added that the Patriots were “definitely” still in the mix for the mercurial receiver. From the outside, the Ravens also make sense as a potential suitor.

The decision for Beckham will come down to a mix of money, the quarterback and coaching staff, and how likely a team is to be a Super Bowl contender. If he is after the most money, the Packers would seem to be out, as the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that they only offered the veteran minimum.

Beckham was released from the Browns after a tumultuous week in which his father posted a video on Instagram purporting to show times his son was open but not getting the ball from Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield. Coming off ACL surgery, he had just 17 catches for 232 yards and no touchdowns in six games this season.

For fans who enjoy reading tea leaves from all types of football reporters — prominent and obscure alike — the next several days will feel like heaven.
