Jerry Jones rips ‘overconfident’ Cowboys after embarrassing effort

Jerry Jones is unhappy with his team’s effort, to say the least.

After the Cowboys, 10-point favorites against Denver, found themselves a 30-16 loser, their owner went on 105.3 The Fan and ripped his team.

“We let our home crowd not get into the game the way you expect a home crowd to do,” Jones said. “We basically played what seemed lackadaisical.”

The Cowboys, who Jones described as “overconfident,” were down 30-0 in the fourth quarter before scoring twice with under five minutes to go, making the score look better than their play was. Dallas had just 290 yards of offense, turned the ball over twice and was dominated in time of possession.

“The thought of getting beat was not on my mind,” Jones said. “… I do believe we let the momentum get away from us and it reflected in our body language.

“… We thought we were ready. … We weren’t and that’s as flat as any team I’ve seen. We’ve got to get back.”

The loss dropped the Cowboys to 6-2, still good enough for first place in the NFC East. They’ll get a good chance to recover this week at home against the Falcons, another game in which they’re heavily favored.

Just don’t tell that to Jones.
