The infamous Spanish bishop who quit the Catholic church after falling in love with a “Satanic erotic” fiction writer has found a new job — exporting pig semen.
Xavier Novell — who resigned as Bishop of Solsona in Catalonia back in August — is now working with Semen Cardona, Spanish-language news outlet ABC has reported.
The Barcelona-based business has 19 artificial insemination centers located across Spain and “distributes approximately 3 million of doses of porcine semen” each year.
While it’s unclear exactly what role Novell, 52, has taken up with the company, Catholic clergy are reportedly outraged by the ex-bishop’s bizarre new career move, claiming he is “possessed” and “masturbating” pigs.
“It’s like the Parable of the Prodigal Son in the Gospel of Luke,” one clergyman told Spanish media, according to the Daily Mail.
“[It is] the story of the son who abandoned the Father to lead a debaucherous life, and ended up wishing to eat pig slop,” the source told the outlet. “But in this case it’s the beast/devil, because he masturbates them.”
News of Novell’s employment comes less than three months after he announced he was resigning as bishop after becoming smitten with 38-year-old Silvia Caballol — a divorced writer of Satanic erotic fiction.
The couple have not granted any interviews since announcing their rebellious romance, and it is unknown whether they have moved in together.
Caballol has published several books including “The Hell of Gabriel’s Lust” and a trilogy called “Amnesia.” The novels explore themes of madness, lust, sadism, God and Satan.
The risqué writer’s publisher describes her as a “dynamic and transgressive author [who] turns upside down our ideas of morality and ethics.”
Novell was once considered one of the Catholic Church’s rising stars. In 2010, he became Spain’s youngest bishop when he was ordained at the age of 41.
BBC reported that he had met multiple times with Vatican officials — even the Pope himself — ahead of his resignation.
