Odell Beckham’s dad posts video blaming Baker Mayfield for son’s failures

Odell Beckham Sr. won’t stay silent about his son’s situation in Cleveland any longer.

Since his return in Week 3 — after last year’s season-ending left knee injury — Odell Beckham Jr. has yet to score a touchdown. There are rumors of a rift between the wide receiver and quarterback Baker Mayfield, who’s been accused of ignoring him while open.

On Tuesday, just hours before the 4 p.m. NFL trade deadline, Beckham Sr. shared an 11-minute video to Instagram that appeared to place the blame on Mayfield for his son’s lackluster season so far.

The video started with a number of plays, where Beckham Jr. was open or attempted to catch an off-target pass from Mayfield in games against the Bears, Vikings, Chargers and Cardinals.

The words, “Every missed opportunity Odell was open Weeks 3-6 2021” popped up on the screen, before more game highlights played.

“Generally Behind Da Scene, BUT NOT TODAY.”……,” Beckham Sr. wrote in his caption, tagging his son in the post. He used a slew of cryptic hashtags, including, “I hurt for him,” “playing hurt” and “disrespectful.”

Beckham Sr. seemed to agree with a fan comment that claimed Mayfield “just doesn’t wanna get Odell the ball” and is “either hating on Odell or he just doesn’t want him shining.”

He sent three checkmark emojis to the Instagram user, who wrote that Mayfield “just genuinely doesn’t wanna give Odell the ball and when he does it’s usually in bad situations to make it look bad on Odell.”

In six games this season, Beckham Jr. has 17 catches on 34 targets for 232 yards and two carries for 14 yards. He added one catch for 6 yards in Sunday’s 15-10 loss to Steelers.

Mayfield, meanwhile, has just six touchdown passes this season, and is 26th in QBR (43.0).

The Browns have no plans to trade Beckham by Tuesday’s trade deadline, according to ESPN, which reported that Cleveland hasn’t received an ideal offer to move Beckham Jr.

The Pro Bowler, who turns 29 on Friday, is under contract in Cleveland through the 2021 season.

The (4-4) Browns are gearing up for an AFC North matchup on Sunday when they visit the (5-3) Bengals.
