Murderous Manhattan real-estate scion Robert Durst was indicted Monday for allegedly killing his wife Kathleen — a charge that comes two weeks after he landed life behind bars for shooting dead an old pal.
Durst, 78, was hit with the second-degree murder charge by a Westchester grand jury in the case of 29-year-old spouse Kathleen Durst, who vanished from the couple’s Westchester County home in 1982.
“For nearly four decades there has been a great deal of speculation about this case, most of it fueled by Robert Durst’s own highly publicized statements,” Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah said in a statement Monday.
“An indictment is a crucial step in the process of holding wrongdoers accountable for their actions,” Rocah said.
The DA had reopened the unsolved case in May and announced last month that she would present it to a grand jury.
The new charges come in the wake of Durst’s life sentence in Los Angeles in October for the 2000 murder of pal Susan Berman, who prosecutors said was about to come clean about Kathleen Durst’s murder.
Kathleen Durst, 29, was last seen on Jan. 31, 1982, at the couple’s South Salem cottage.
Her body has never been found, and Durst divorced her in 1990, claiming abandonment.
In 2017, her family had her declared legally dead.
Durst claimed he drove her to the train station and later spoke to her on the phone on the day she vanished.
In a 2015 HBO documentary, “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” the ailing millionaire admitted he made those details up, saying he was “hoping that would just make everything go away.”
Durst was also tried for killing and chopping up neighbor Morris Black in Galveston, Texas, but was acquitted after claiming self-defense.
