Mother shoots her 2 kids, telling them she wants them to go to heaven

An Arizona mom shot her two young kids multiple times, one fatally, after she told them she wanted them to go to heaven, cops said.

Esther Callejas, 24, fatally shot her 2-year-old daughter at close range and then fired “at least” three shots at her 6-year-old son as he ran away from her in their Phoenix home on Monday, prosecutors said in court, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.

With all the bullets in her .38 spent, she struggled to reload the gun and tried to kill herself by downing anti-depressants, AZFamily.com reported. She then called her husband and sister-in-law to tell them what she’d done.

The boy was still fighting for his life and in critical condition as of Thursday, reports said.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Ann Justus said in a news briefing on the shooting that police were called to the home at about 11:45 a.m., and first responders administered CPR on the children until they could be taken to the hospital.

The tragic scene left responders “shaken up,” she said.

“You can imagine, something nobody should have to see our officers see it again and again,” Justus said.

Callejas, who is facing charges of murder and attempted murder, had bought the murder weapon a few years ago but hid it from her husband, Emmanuel Isidro, the Arizona Republic reported. She had been on prescription meds for her depression, the newspaper stated.

She hid the handgun in the kids’ room days before the shooting, the Republic said. She fired a test shot, accidentally hitting herself in the left hand before she turned the gun on her kids. Eperanza Isidro, 2, was pronounced dead at the hospital, the newspaper stated.

In an interview with cops after her arrest she admitted to the shooting and said “she wanted them to go to heaven,” Fox 10 stated.
