McDonald’s McRib is McBack to McTantalize your McTastebuds

The McRib is McBack.

It’s that time of year for the McDonald’s McRib to circle back to the menu — and just in time for its 40th anniversary.

The fan-fave, sub-style sandwich — pork topped with barbecue sauce, onions and dill pickles — is returning to some locations nationwide for a limited run beginning Nov. 1.

“In the ’80s, the masterminds behind McDonald’s food innovation had a truly unique idea: an undeniably delicious sandwich that could be enjoyed during the colder seasons,” Mike Bullington, McDonald’s senior archives manager, said in a statement about the ‘wich that was launched by the fast-food chain in 1981 in Kansas City, Kansas.

“Whether you’re a McRib loyalist or first-timer, there is no denying that the McRib is one of the most iconic sandwiches of the last four decades and we have thousands of emails and tweets from fans to prove it,” he added.

McRibbers were ready to gobble it up once again, with one person urging others to “Stop what ur doing…. THE MCRIB IS COMING BACK” and another confessing that they “wait for this Mcrib every year. It’s like an addiction around Halloween.”

The McRib originally only stayed on the menu for a short while, and it ultimately came back in the mid-’90s to celebrate the release of the live-action “Flintstones” film. The John Goodman and Rosie O’Donnell-starring comedy premiered in the summer of 1994.

The sandwich made the journey across the Atlantic Ocean and has been featured on the international Mickey D’s menus in Germany, New Zealand and France. While it has been a McDonald’s staple throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, it came back to restaurants in 2012 for a brief time.

In 2020, the McRib made yet another appearance — and the rest is history.

Once again this year, McDevotees can head to the online McRib Locator to see where the sandwich is available.
