Liberal media discover that you need cops to stop crime

With murder soaring across America, some in the liberal media have come to a belated conclusion: Cops stop crime.

Trendy-left site Vox has run countless anti-police articles in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death but just shared senior correspondent German Lopez’s alert that “police should be part of the solution” now that homicides jumped 30 percent last year, with big cities seeing even greater spikes.

Lopez explains: “There is solid evidence that more police officers and certain policing strategies reduce crime and violence. In a recent survey of criminal-justice experts, a majority said increasing police budgets would improve public safety.”

What? Targeted policing of gangs and hot spot policing works? Who knew?!

The piece even explains how essential policing is for minority communities, flagging a 2020 National Bureau of Economic Research study’s finding: “Each additional police officer abates approximately 0.1 homicides. In per capita terms, effects are twice as large for Black versus white victims.”

Black communities are helped by having more cops in the neighborhoods, not fewer: What a concept.

Lopez even notes that when it comes to the effectiveness of “violence interrupters,” the research “ranges from weak to disappointing.”

We look forward to seeing Vox consider how to bolster policing after two years of nonstop attacks on cops as racists have cop morale sinking nationwide and retirements soaring.
