Mets’ Tomas Nido returns to the injured list with same left thumb sprain

Tomas Nido came back from the injured list for one start Friday night, only to land right back on it four days later with the same injury.

The Mets placed Nido on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left thumb sprain after the catcher continued to feel the effects of it following a check swing on Friday.

“It felt better for him as he did his rehab and the progression to get into games,” Rojas said before the Mets’ doubleheader sweep over the Marlins at Citi Field. “But that first game when he played, specifically when he took the check swing in one of the at-bats Friday, he felt it.”

Nido sat out Saturday’s and Sunday’s games, but with an off day Monday, the Mets thought he would be able to start Tuesday.

“But it just didn’t change from what he felt Friday,” Rojas said.

The Mets called up Chance Sisco, who walked to start the ninth-inning rally in Game 1, while Patrick Mazeika started both ends of the doubleheader behind the plate.

Jeff McNeil got the brunt of a collision with Conforto in the sixth inning on a pop-up to shallow right field. He dove and appeared to take Conforto’s glove to his head — before Conforto tumbled over him — but after briefly staying down on the field, remained in the game.

“We were worried [at first],” Rojas said. “[But] he said he was fine.”

Baez pinch hit for him in the eighth inning because the Mets liked the matchup, but McNeil started Game 2 in left field.

Before the nightcap, the Mets activated infielder Luis Guillorme (hamstring strain) off the 10-day IL and optioned Brandon Drury to Triple-A Syracuse.

They also recalled reliever Yennsy Diaz as the 27th man for the doubleheader.
