Brothers from Long Island among victims of Florida condo collapse

A pair of brothers from Long Island are among the victims of the deadly Florida condo building collapse, according to authorities.

Dix Hills native Dr. Brad Cohen, 51, was identified Friday as one of the 97 victims of the June 24 collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside — days after his brother Gary Cohen was also pulled from the rubble and identified.

The two brothers both left the family’s Suffolk County home to pursue careers in the South — Gary in Alabama and Brad in South Florida, according to AL.com.

Their parents, Morton and Debra Cohen, remained in Dix Hills until 2019, when they sold their home and also moved to Florida, according to property records reviewed by The Post.

Gary Cohen had been staying at his brother’s 11th-floor apartment at Champlain Towers the day of the collapse while in Florida to visit their ailing father, Birmingham News reported.

Gary Cohen was a psychiatrist at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, the paper said.

Brad Cohen graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1997 and later relocated to the Miami area, where he was an orthopedic surgeon, the outlet said.

His young daughter, Elisheva Cohen, who was staying elsewhere in the area with her mom when the building collapsed, made headlines earlier this month when President Biden visited Surfside and met with the grieving 12-year-old.

The meeting came about after Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett had seen the youngster reading a prayer book at the ruins of the condo where her dad and uncle were missing.

Burkett mentioned the heartbreaking scene to Biden, who asked to meet the girl.

“I wanted him to know and see the face of that little girl who was praying for her father across from the rubble,” Burkett later said. “He looked at me and said, ‘Would you please bring her to me now?'”
