Though the phrase “this one counts” is no longer the slogan for the MLB All-Star Game, the Midsummer Classic still figures to bring loads of excitement and baseball’s best putting on a show on Tuesday.
The American League has won each of the last seven games and while the game is being played in a National League ballpark in Colorado at Coors Field, this is not much of an advantage, as managers often try to get everyone on the roster into the game and the designated hitter will be utilized.
The American League has had the leg up in interleague games this season as well, with an 86-77 record with 10 American League teams having at least a .500 record against the National League.
The National League will also find itself shorthanded with starters Buster Posey and Ronald Acuna Jr. both out due to injury, and the league leader among qualifying starters Jacob deGrom deciding to not play in the game.
A total of 15 players hit the All-Star break with at least 21 home runs, and with 11 residing in the American League and just one of the four from the National League available Tuesday night, the American League’s dominance in the All-Star Game will continue.
