NJ children’s center supervisor charged with sexual assault

An employee at a New Jersey treatment center for children was arrested for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13, prosecutors said.

Garry Jonathan Rucker, 31, is accused of attacking the preteen victim while working on June 19 as a weekend supervisor at an unnamed juvenile treatment center in Hackensack, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Rucker, a residential assistant at the facility, engaged in acts including the sexual penetration of a child under the age of 13 during the alleged assault, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

“Rucker then left the facility and never returned,” Musella said in a statement.

The state’s Department of Children and Families was later notified before an investigation was launched by Hackensack police on June 20.

Rucker was arrested Friday in Paterson, Musella said.

He remained held without bail Tuesday at the Bergen County Jail on charges including aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, online records show.

It’s unclear if Rucker — a Hackensack man who has an alias of Ali Ali, according to jail records — has hired an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Messages sent to Musella’s office for additional information Tuesday were not returned.

A LinkedIn profile for a Garry Rucker in Hackensack indicated he was “looking for a position in management.” The man’s previous employment included assistant manager jobs at retailers Casual Male, Steve Madden and ALDO Shoes.
