Biden to visit site of deadly Florida building collapse on Thursday

President Biden said Tuesday that he plans to visit the site of the deadly condo building collapse near Miami.

“Hopefully as early as Thursday,” Biden told reporters as he left the White House for a trip to Wisconsin to promote a bipartisan infrastructure plan.

The White House press office confirmed moments later that Biden and first lady Jill Biden will make the trip Thursday.

The 12-story Champlain Towers South tower in Surfside, Fla., collapsed at 1:30 a.m. last Thursday as residents slept, killing at least 11 people. Another 150 are still missing.

Emergency crews are still working to find potential survivors in the rubble, but those efforts have been fruitless for days.

The beachfront building was built in 1981 and is believed to have collapsed due to defective concrete that needed to be repaired.
