Inside the NYC art gallery for sale as a $7.8M single-family mansion

This property is a work of art.

Galleriest Anthony Blumka is listing his Upper East Side townhouse for $7.85 million. The home is both a residence — and the site of his eponymously named Blumka Gallery.

A past president and honorary member of the Art and Antique Dealers League of America, Blumka is a fourth-generation dealer in Medieval and Renaissance works of art and sculpture.

His great-grandfather launched the business in Vienna and his father, Leopold, moved the gallery to New York in 1939.

Blumka opened Blumka Gallery in the townhouse in 1997. The four-story, turn-of-the century home on 72nd Street, currently features a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home, along with the gallery.

The 20-foot-wide limestone building, framed by two large Kwanzaas cherry trees at the entrance, was renovated by architect Peter Pennoyer in 1996.

It features a garden level, and lots of private outdoor space.

Inside, it opens to a foyer with a gas fireplace, powder room and walk-in closet — along with two cozy built-in window benches.

The space is anchored by a spiral staircase.

There’s also an elevator.

The first floor also features a double-height gallery with 15-foot ceilings that “is an art collector’s dream,” the listing notes.

There’s also a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass windows that leads to a landscaped garden designed by Madison Cox, where Japanese maple trees are “surrounded by 25-year-old cascading climbing hydrangea.”

The second floor boasts a library/living room with built-in mahogany bookcases, a second gas fireplace and three French doors with Juliette balconies overlooking the garden, along with side windows with east and west exposures.

This floor also has a formal dining room, kitchen and bar.

There is another large eat-in chef’s kitchen, along with a third bedroom or den and a 200-square-foot terrace overlooking the garden on the third floor.

The fourth floor has two main bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.

There are skylights above the staircase, hallway and larger bathroom, and lots of hardwood floors throughout the home.

Listing brokers Lisa Tarnopol Deslauriers and Linda Reiner of Warburg declined comment.
