NYC hits new COVID low, as de Blasio offers more vax giveaways

New York City has hit another COVID-19 low, with the city dropping to below 0.6 percent positivity rate over the last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday, as he lured more Big Apple residents to get jabbed with prizes.

“We have the lowest COVID positivity on record,” de Blasio said of the city’s .59 percent positivity on the seven-day average.

“Every additional dose makes us safer, everybody who gets fully vaccinated makes us safer,” he added during his daily morning press conference. “We keep driving back COVID because people continue to get vaccinated and it’s having more and more of an impact.”

New York City hospitals reported 50 patients admitted who are confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19, and city data shows 193 people have tested positive for the bug, de Blasio said Monday.

“Those are great,” de Blasio said of the promising figures.

“Let’s go even lower, go out and get vaccinated.”

De Blasio encouraged New Yorkers who have not yet been vaccinated to do so, noting that if they sign up to get vaccinated at a city-run site, residents can win free MetroCards or a “staycation” at one of several ritzy hotels such as the famed Carlyle.

“The staycations are very popular,” de Blasio said.

“People love the idea of being a tourist in their own city, staying in a great hotel.”
