Who’s next in line to fight the Paul brothers?
Logan Paul, 26, the eldest of the two YouTubers-turned-boxers, is fresh off his eight-round exhibition bout with Floyd Mayweather on Sunday night.
Though there was no winner in the pay-per-view exhibition, Mayweather, at age 44, dominated every statistical category.
Following the fight, Paul, who previously wrestled in high school, told reporters he wouldn’t be opposed to attempting MMA.
Meanwhile, Logan’s younger brother Jake, who’s 3-0 in his pro boxing career, will take on former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in an August pay-per-view event with Showtime Sports.
Jake’s three professional bouts all ended in knockouts against YouTuber AnEsonGib, former Knicks player Nate Robinson and most recently, MMA fighter Ben Askren, who had never boxed professionally prior to his fight with Jake.
While the internet sensations have maintained multiple beefs with fellow fighters on social media, Logan’s next opponent remains a mystery. Jake, after his fight with Woodley, has no other fight lined up either.
Here’s are five potential opponents we’d like to see the Paul brothers get in the ring with:
Canelo Alvarez
The 30-year-old Mexican super middleweight world champion has been vocal about his disdain for the Paul brothers. And, he seems to be in Jake’s crosshairs.
Alvarez, during Logan’s fight with Mayweather, tweeted a facepalm emoji — seemingly expressing his disdain with the event. Jake caught wind of the tweet, and nine minutes later, replied to Alvarez, writing, “you can’t sell PPV’s. I would eat you alive.”
Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) — who is ranked the world’s best active boxer, pound for pound, by Box Rec — has yet to reply to Jake.
Floyd Mayweather
He’s already fought one brother, so why not take on the other? Mayweather, just one day ahead of his exhibition fight at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, said it’s likely he’ll fight Jake in a future bout.
After revealing he’ll make about $50-100 million from his fight with Logan, Mayweather told TMZ on Saturday, “After Logan, probably Jake, we’ll see.”
Mayweather’s comment came after he got into a physical altercation with Jake last month during a pre-fight press conference for his matchup with Logan. Jake stole Mayweather’s hat and ran, which made for a heated preview of what could be if the two ever stepped into the ring together.
Kamaru Usman
The 34-year-old UFC welterweight champion has already said he’d be “happy to take care of” Jake Paul in the ring, following Paul’s confrontation with Daniel Cormier at UFC 261 in April.
Cormier, a former UFC heavyweight and light-heavyweight champion, nearly came to blows with Jake and said on the UFC 261 broadcast that he’d “slap him in the face.”
Prior to their scuffle, Jake and Cormier traded insults through social media, among other platforms — including on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast, when Jake said, “I’ll beat the f–k out of your fat ass, too,” while talking about Cormier.
Following Usman’s call-out, Jake took to Twitter to accept his fight challenge.
“If your boss [UFC president] Dana [White] gives you permission to box me and make more money than you ever have, let me know and we can lace them up,” he tweeted. “I promise it will be your biggest pay day.”
Tommy Fury
The 22-year-old British boxer, the half brother of Tyson Fury, is a rising star in the fight world. Fury and Jake have been trading insults on social media since at least March, though, Fury told TMZ in late April that it was Jake who sparked the war of words to begin with.
“I’m ready, and I’m here and I’m game to fight, but obviously this man is not,” Fury told the outlet, admitting that he believes Jake wouldn’t accept a fight with him.
“My message to Jake Paul is that he’s a massive p—y and he doesn’t want to fight. He’s not a fighting man. So, when he grows a pair of balls come and see me, but until then, don’t mention my name ever again,” Fury said at the time.
Conor McGregor
The Irish fighter’s star power is up there with the Paul brothers’ fame, which is why this potential matchup would be highly entertaining.
Not to mention, he’s unafraid to throw a big wager on a high-profile fight. Fans may recall when McGregor lost to Mayweather on a $700 million pay-per-view card in 2017, becoming Mayweather’s 50th career takedown.
After his brother’s bout with Mayweather, Jake took to Twitter and claimed McGregor is “ducking” him.
McGregor, 32. hasn’t responded to Jake, despite promoting his other business ventures on social media.
