Three people shot in NYC in apparent robbery attempt

A would-be robber opened fire on a husband and wife while trying to break into their Brooklyn apartment Thursday afternoon — only to be shot dead by the injured woman, according to police sources.

The terrifying scene unfolded inside 666 Broadway in Williamsburg around 3:20 p.m. when the gunman tried to push his way inside apartment 9, sources said.

The husband tried to hold the door closed to stop the suspect from getting inside, as the man opened fire, striking the couple.

The injured wife then grabbed a gun belonging to her hubby and shot the suspect dead, according to sources.

The woman was struck once in the right arm, while her husband was shot in the back and taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

The suspect — who was shot in the head — was pronounced dead at the scene in the hallway of the building, sources said.

Police said the matter is being investigated as a possible home-invasion robbery.

Cops recovered ballistic evidence at the scene.

A child was believed to be in the apartment at the time and was not injured, according to the NYPD.

A woman called 911 to report the crime, sources said, but it’s unclear if it was the woman who killed the suspect or a neighbor.

A push-in robbery was reported at the same apartment in the Broadway building — which is a block away from the NYPD’s 90th Precinct station house — in 2019, law enforcement sources said.

At the time, a woman said two suspects, who were not arrested, broke into her apartment that November and stole her wallet and cash, the sources said.

Milly Eshpade lives in the Bronx, but was out shopping near the crime scene around the time of the shooting.

“Now that everything is opening up, people are going out and it feels like things are improving but this neighborhood, it’s getting worse, and it’s very sad,” she said.
