Former Yankee Rob Refsnyder forgets there’s an outfield wall in painful blooper

Rob Refsndyer would have benefited from a “Heads up!” by a teammate.

The career utility man is still new to playing center field for the Twins, but he is now familiar with the hazards of the job. Refsnyder crashed hard into the fence Sunday while tracking a home run from the Orioles’ Ryan Mountcastle in the fifth inning.

Refsnyder never slowed down as he crossed over from the grass to the warning track with his head turned back to home plate. It appeared his head hit the wall first before he landed on his back and somersaulted. He remained in the game.

Refsndyer, 30, came through the Yankees farm system as an infielder and developed into a utility player to add to his value. Sunday was only his 13th career game in center field, a position he added to his repertoire when the Twins lost starter Byron Buxton to injury.

The Twins were looking for ways to keep Refsnyder’s hot bat in the lineup as he is hitting .320 with two home runs, 10 runs scored and nine RBIs since May 15.
