Mets get first look at Carlos Carrasco

Observations from Sunday’s Mets workout:

Body Building

Carlos Carrasco threw his first bullpen session since his delayed arrival to spring training, working with catcher James McCann. The veteran right-hander said he believes he should still have enough time to build up to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Making ‘D’ Effort

The Mets’ fundamental focus on Sunday was working on cutoffs and relays from the outfield. It’s part of the defensive effort that they hope will make strides this season.

Caught My Eye

Al Leiter, a baseball operations adviser for the Mets, arrived at camp Sunday and spent time speaking with owner Steve Cohen and president Sandy Alderson on the back fields.

Monday’s Schedule

The Mets open up Grapefruit League play with a road game against the Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.
