It’s been a roller-coaster of a season for Bradley Beal, who is leading the NBA in scoring (33.1 points per game) despite his Washington Wizards (8-17) languishing in the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
Monday night featured a little bit of everything for Beal. In the third quarter, the ball tumbled under a tarp behind the basket at Capitol One Arena, leading to a stoppage in play. Being the selfless guy he is, Beal dropped to his stomach and climbed under the stands to retrieve the ball.
Fans on Twitter had fun with the clip. “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” tweeted an image of Beal next to Pennywise from “It,” the killer clown who lured victims into a sewer, while Rob Perez made a reference to “The Wizard of Oz.” Even Beal’s wife, Kamiah Adams-Beal, joked that “something wrong with him.”
Oh, and Beal also scored 37 points – including a basket after retrieving the ball – in the Wizards’ 131-119 victory. Not only that, it came against his former teammate John Wall, who was traded from Washington to Houston in the offseason for Russell Westbrook.
Wall is having a productive first season in Houston, averaging 20 points and seeing his scoring and usage rise since James Harden was traded to the Nets. Beal, however, has taken his game to new heights without Wall beside him, which has put him at the center of rampant trade rumors throughout the season. The Knicks are monitoring Beal ahead of next month’s trade deadline, The Post’s Marc Berman reported.
