Tom Brady’s trash-talking shocked Tyrann Mathieu: ‘No comment’

Trash-Talking Tom.

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu jawed at each other for most of the first half of Super Bowl 2021 and the exchanges clearly left a bad taste in Mathieu’s mouth. Well, those and the 31-9 defeat.

“Listen, Tom Brady’s a great quarterback,” Mathieu said. “I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest. But whatever. No comment. It’s over with. I’m done with it.”

The tensions escalated in the second quarter when Mathieu argued with officials whose penalty call erased his interception and led to a Tampa Bay touchdown. On a later touchdown drive, Mathieu was called for pass interference in the end zone.

As the PAT units came on the field, Mathieu pointed his finger in the face of Brady, who chased him down and delivered a heated message. They were separated by teammates and Mathieu was called for the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Internet lip-readers believe Brady had a two-word message about Mathieu when he was sitting on the bench moments later.

“I don’t know what it does for him but for the guys around us, we love that s–t,” Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans said. “We love when it gets fiery and competitive. When [Brady] does that, he has a lot of guys to back him up.”
