Deshaun Watson may have given the first indication he’s interested in coming to the Jets.
The Texans star’s official Instagram account liked a picture of The Post’s back page from Monday that said the Jets should do “Whatever It Takes” to acquire the disgruntled quarterback. The picture was posted by Yonkers entrepreneur Wayne Schneider.
Watson, 25, is reportedly very unhappy with Houston owner Cal McNair and vice president of football operations Jack Easterby after the organization didn’t make good on promises it made that he would be able to give input on the club’s vacant general manager and head-coaching positions after the firing of Bill O’Brien. Watson was reportedly not consulted before the Texans hired GM Nick Caserio this month.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has since reported that there is a “growing sense from people in and around the Texans’ organization that Deshaun Watson has played his last snap for the team.”
Watson tweeted last week that “I was on a 2 then I took it to 10.” The wording was similar to an ESPN report saying Watson’s anger when the Texans traded receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals last offseason was a “2” and now it’s escalated. Watson has not officially asked for a trade, according to Pro Football Talk.
If Watson does want out, the Jets are one of the teams — in terms of assets — that might be best in position to land him. General manager Joe Douglas has amassed 18 draft picks over the next two years, including four in the first round. The Jets could also put quarterback Sam Darnold in any deal and have the cap space to take on Watson’s four-year, $156 million extension.
If Watson’s social media is any indication, he may be open to wearing green.
