Tom Brady to Alex Smith: ‘I’m so f–king proud of you’

Tom Brady may have defeated the Washington Football Team in the wild-card round, but he made sure to show his respect to a quarterback on the opposing sideline.

Brady was mic’d up for the Buccaneers’ victory on Saturday, and his postgame interaction with Washington QB Alex Smith, who was inactive for the game, was recorded and tweeted from Tampa Bay’s official Twitter account.

“I’m so f–king proud of you, bro,” Brady told Smith. “You’re f–king unbelievable, you know that? You’re a f–king inspiration to all of us.

“You’re unbelievable. I’m always here if you need me.”

Smith suffered a devastating leg injury in November 2018, breaking his tibia and fibula. At one point, the injury threatened his life, and doctors feared he would have to amputate his leg.

Not only did Smith improbably recover from his injury, he started six games for the Washington Football Team in 2020, winning five of them. He helped lead the team to an NFC East championship at 7-9.

Smith suffered a calf injury late in the season and was replaced by Taylor Heinicke, who threw for 306 yards and a touchdown in Washington’s loss.
