A UK couple hastily rearranged their wedding in just two hours to avoid their special day getting scrapped by London’s last-minute lockdown.
Jamie Collins, 29, and Chloe Martin, 31, told the BBC that they had already been forced to reschedule their nuptials three times because of COVID-19 restrictions before settling on saying their I do’s Sunday.
The bride-to-be said she “felt physically sick” when Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Saturday that a strict lockdown was starting at midnight, scuttling their wedding the next day.
Their rabbi suggested they bring it forward — with the couple managing in hours to get the maximum allowance of 15 guests to come to London’s Edgware United Synagogue, with another 100 watching on Zoom.
“We just started calling people to see what we could do, and the more calls we made, the more people said ‘Yes,'” the new Mrs. Collins told the BBC.
The best man spent the full two hours driving to be there — then turned around and drove back home after the 10 p.m. wedding, the BBC said.
“I’ve never in my life felt so much love and felt so grateful,” the new bride said of their 10 p.m. nuptials, just hours after Johnson’s lockdown speech.
“It was a miracle that it just kind of came together. It felt like a dream.
“Some people take years to plan a wedding, but we did it in two hours.”
The bride’s sister, Sasha Haralambous, wrote on Facebook about the “rollercoaster” special day, saying, “Love always wins.”
“Boris was not getting in the way this time,” she said of the UK leader.
