St. John’s agrees to postpone game against Villanova

St. John’s players, who have been on campus since the end of July, will get a few days to go home for the holidays.

The Red Storm’s game at Villanova on Dec. 30 was postponed, so they will be free to go their separate ways after Sunday night’s home game against Georgetown and return to school by Dec. 24, according to sources. The next scheduled game is Jan. 2 at home against DePaul.

It was Villanova’s idea to move the game back, sources said, and St. John’s was amenable to it. The game has yet to be rescheduled.

“We just thought our players needed a break,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said in a statement. “Their well-being is our top priority. We appreciate that St. John’s is in agreement with us on this in wanting the same for their players.”
