The Denver Broncos are hoping their quarterback disaster could be over after one week.
The Broncos had no new positive tests for COVID-19 out of Sunday’s testing, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
All four quarterbacks on their roster missed Sunday’s game against New Orleans while on the COVID restricted list, due to a positive test by backup quarterback Jeff Driskel. The other three signal callers – including starter Drew Lock – were ruled out because of a positional meeting held without masks, breaking league protocols.
Wide receiver Kendall Hinton, a former quarterback at Wake Forest, was promoted from the practice squad, but he completed just one pass for 13 yards in Sunday’s ugly 31-3 loss to New Orleans.
Lock publicly apologized in a tweet Sunday, but Broncos coach Vic Fangio lashed out at his quarterback group – also including Brett Rypien and veteran Blake Bortles.
“I was disappointed on several levels, that our QBs put us in that position, that our QBs put the league in that position,” Fangio said. “We count on them to be the leaders of our team, the leaders of our offense, and those guys made a mistake.”
Fangio is hedging his bets, signing Kyle Shurmur — son of ex-Giants head coach and current Denver offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur — for a tryout, per ESPN.
